Powerful Iron
This is a very nice iron- and should be for the price. It has amazing steam and the option to turn off the "auto shut off" is excellent. Ironing tablecloths is so much easier when the steam and heat stay on. Know that is a heavier iron than most. You quickly grow used to it. If it's empty of water, there will be a pronounced sound - keep water in it and it goes away.

Great iron!
I have been looking for an iron with a bypass control. I sew all day long and it is tiresome to always have to wait for the iron to heat back up. This iron lets me bypass that and stays hot as long as I need it. It also puts out A LOT of steam. I love it!

Working As Expected So Far
I’ve only had this iron for about a week. So far it has performed as expected. If it starts to spit or leak, I will update my review. The generator activating handle is weird. I’ll get use to it I guess

Great steam/heat but has a life of six months
This is a premium priced iron. I purchased it with the expectation that it would be a workhorse since I’m a quilter. I will note that the user manual said you should only use the iron 4-5 hours a week. Please. For the price of that iron, it should have beeb able to be used 24 hours a day.Within six months, the steam part stopped working completely. I contacted Reliable and - after jumping through hoops - they did replace it. Six months later, the second one began to unexpectedly leak and five minutes later, there was a strong burning smell, like it was in fire. I quickly unplugged it. When I contacted Reliable again, they refused to honor the warranty, saying it was past the year warranty since they used the date of the first iron. However, they would be happy to repair it for 75 bucks plus shipping and handling. Nope. There is a real problem with this iron and I do not believe it is “Reliable” or safe. I have since bought a 40 dollar Rowenta from Costco. Yep, it probably will leak like a sieve but I could buy five of them for the price I paid for the Reliable.

Fantastic iron for sewing
This is a fantastic steam iron for your sewing projects. I have tried several other “highly recommended”, not to mention more expensive irons and this is by far the best. It does use a lot of water, so have a gallon of distilled water on hand.

Buy it
Have been using this for a week for piecing quilt tops. I absolutely love it. Steam is amazing. I find the controls easy to use. The weight is great. My seams have never been flatter.

good function, a few mildly annoying features
Just for context, I'm a quilter and a long time Rowenta user. I got tired of leaky Rowentas, so thought I would give the Velocity 270IR a try. I've had it for about a week and have used it for several hours. I'm not sorry I bought it, but I'm not 100% certain I would buy the same model again.Pros: It heats up quickly and produces plenty of heat and steam at the highest setting. The weight is comparable to my old Rowenta, which is a plus for me, but could be a con for anyone who doesn't like a heavy iron. The controls are straightforward, though I find the temp setting control stiff enough that I usually have to put both hands on the iron to change it.Cons: The following aspects annoy me, but could just as easily be an advantage to someone else.* It's "chatty". It beeps when it reaches temp (fine), it mutters the entire time you're actively pressing with steam. (I think it's the steam generator and so WAI.) It ticks when it is on standby. Please, shut up.* You have to set the temp, the steam on/off, and disable the auto-shut off every time you turn it on. This is a consequence of the digital controls that I had not thought of, and makes me wish it was mechanical.* The fill cover is quite stiff and thus a little difficult to open. I have to pry it up with a pen or scissors.* The anodized sole plate does not glide over the fabric as readily as the stainless sole plate I've had in the past.So far, so good on the leak front, but it's too soon to tell. IME, no iron leaks when it's new.
