Q: Is the spout lid of the tea kettle made of wood?

No ... it's made out of bakelite ... which is a plastic that is able to accept some heat. The instructions tell you to keep the spout whistle turned away from the flame if you have a gas stove because of this. The handle is wood and the knob on the lid is also wood. The bakelite is colored to look like wood. I've been using this every day for a few weeks without any problem. It's a great little tea kettle.

Q: Is the handle cool to touch when pouring?

I wouldn't say it is cool, but certainly not hot. I use my kettle every morning, and always pour immediately after the whistle blows. I've never been burned or felt that I needed a towel or pot holder to hold the handle.

Q: Will the tea kettle whistle or not when boiled?

Mine stopped whistling a while ago. Today, the water (just for one cup of tea) evaporated, the kettle did no whistle; the lower part turned black = no tea for me, and no kettle either.

Q: Does this teapot boil water with a strange smell?

I love my new teapot! There is no strange smell when I boil water.
